How does it work?
Attesting a Spanish document can be complicated, especially as the process differs depending on the type of document and who you’re presenting it to. Often the document may also need to be translated into English or Arabic. We’ve outlined below the usual process that documents need to go through, but please bear in mind that this can vary depending on what you need to attest. Notarisation & Certification
Most documents start by needing to be notarised and certified. During this stage, a notary public will check the document is legitimate and sign & stamp it accordingly.

Translation from Spanish to English
Any document written in Spanish will need to be translated into English. Then, the English translation is processed rather than the original, Spanish document. For qualifications and birth, marriage or death certificates that are already in English, this step is not required.

UAE Embassy Attestation
The final step in the UK is to have the document stamped, known as attested, by the UAE Embassy in London. During this stage an official UAE-government sticker and seal is applied to the document. This confirms to the authorities in the UAE that the document has completed all the required steps in the UK.

MoFA Attestation (UAE)
Once the document has reached the UAE, it requires a further attestation stamp by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This confirms that your document has been processed correctly in Spain. Some employers make arrangements to handle this for you, so you should check whether you need to complete this yourself or not. If you’d prefer to complete this process yourself, we can arrange for the required PCR test to be carried out before you attend, if you’d like. If your document does not require translation (see the next section), then once the MOFA stamp has been applied your document is ready for use in the UAE.

Translation from English into Arabic
In certain circumstances, your document may also require translation into Arabic. Again, your employer may handle this for you so best to check. If required, the whole document and its relevant stamps are translated from English into Arabic by a recognised certified translator. Once the translation has been done, then everything has been completed to make it fully useable within the UAE.
Reminders
- Whilst the original document is usually required, some educational certificates can be processed using a scanned copy. Please contact one of our consultants to check if this is the case for your document.
- Please note it is a requirement of the UAE to have a translation submitted with the original but it does not need to be legalized.
- Arabic translation is usually required for use in all emirates other than Dubai, and also if the document is to be used within one of the Dubai Free Zone authorities including (but not limited to) the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).
- Educational documents in Spain require attestation from the Ministry of Education in order to be accepted by the UAE Embassy, while Birth Certificates will need to be verified by the Superior Court.
- Please note that not all educational documents are accepted by the Spanish MOE. If the document will not be accepted by the MOE, unfortunately, we will be unable to attest it for you.
