Contract Translation Services UK

A contract needs to communicate the same obligations, conditions and exceptions in each language. We translate commercial and personal agreements into and from English, with the scope agreed around your document, intended reader and purpose.

Whether you need an NDA for a prospective supplier, an employment agreement for an overseas employee or a sale agreement for review, provide the complete contract and any schedules it refers to. Tell us which country it will be used in and whether the translation is for information, negotiation or submission.

For wider legal matters, see our legal translation services. If your contract forms part of a larger submission, our legal document translation service covers accompanying documents.

Certification is available where required. Let us know the recipient’s instructions when requesting your quote so the appropriate service can be confirmed before work begins.

Contracts and Agreements

We translate commercial contracts, employment agreements, NDAs, leases and other agreements. Include annexes and schedules in your request so the translation scope covers the provisions and references your reader needs.

Legal and Sector Terminology

Contract language combines legal concepts with industry terminology. Share the relevant sector, intended use and any approved glossary so a linguist can be matched to the language pair and subject matter.

Contract Translation Checks

Defined terms need consistent treatment throughout the agreement. Checks should cover party names, dates, amounts, obligations, clause numbering and cross-references, with unclear source wording raised for clarification.

Defined Terms and Legal Context

Provide your preferred terminology, previous approved translations and relevant background at the start. Terms such as “Supplier”, “Effective Date” and “Confidential Information” may have specific definitions that must be carried through every clause and schedule.

Translation follows the source contract. Ambiguities or conflicting references should be flagged rather than silently rewritten. If you need the agreement adapted to another jurisdiction or advice on enforceability, arrange a separate review with your legal adviser.

Confidential Contract Translations

Contracts may contain commercially sensitive pricing, personal information and business plans. Tell us about confidentiality requirements before sending your files, including any NDA, access restrictions or required file-transfer arrangements. We can confirm the arrangements for your project before work starts.

Send only the material needed for the agreed scope. If you intend to redact information, discuss this first so that missing text does not prevent clauses, definitions or party references from being understood.

For sensitive agreements, contact our team first to agree how to share the documents.

When Certification Is Required

A contract translation does not automatically need certification. Where a recipient requests it, our certified translation service includes an accuracy statement, stamp, signature and date.

Share the recipient’s written requirements. Notarisation, sworn translation and legalisation are separate services and should only be added where needed. Acceptance depends on the recipient’s requirements, language and destination.

Certified translation starts from £25/page. Notarisation is £130/document, sworn translation is typically £70/page, and an optional Statement of Truth is normally £25 extra. We confirm the applicable service and total price after reviewing the documents.

Request a Contract Translation Quote

Request a contract translation quote with the complete file, source and target languages, intended use and deadline. Include any certification instructions and required delivery format.

How Contract Translation Is Priced

Quotes account for word count, language pair, subject complexity, formatting and urgency. Dense agreements and multiple schedules need individual review. See our guide to legal translation costs for the factors involved.

Short documents typically take 1–2 working days and standard projects 2–3 working days. Longer agreements, multiple languages or additional certification may take longer. Same-day or next-day delivery is offered only where feasible and confirmed for your project.

Types of Contract We Translate

We can help with the following types of agreement. Include related schedules, appendices and amendments when requesting a quote:

  • Commercial contracts and service agreements
  • Employment contracts
  • NDAs and confidentiality agreements
  • Leases and tenancy agreements
  • Shareholder agreements
  • Purchase and sale agreements
  • Supplier and distribution agreements
  • Partnership agreements
  • Terms & conditions
  • Quality assurance agreements and end-user licence agreements

What Matters in a Contract Translation?

Defined Terms and Terminology

A defined term must retain its meaning wherever it appears. Provide an approved glossary if you have one. Consistency checks also cover obligations, exceptions and recurring technical expressions across the agreement.

Clause Numbers and Cross-References

Keep the complete numbering sequence, schedules and annexes in the source file. The translation should preserve these links so reviewers can compare clauses and locate referenced provisions. Tell us if you need a bilingual layout.

Versions and Amendments

Identify the version to translate by filename and date. Supply both clean and tracked-change copies when relevant, and specify whether comments are in scope. Changes after translation starts may affect the quote and delivery date.

Contract Translation FAQs

How Much Does Contract Translation Cost?

We quote after reviewing the complete agreement. The price depends on length, languages, complexity, formatting and deadline. Certified translation starts from £25/page where certification is needed. Send the file for a confirmed total rather than estimating a dense contract by page count alone.

Who Can Translate a Contract?

Use a translator with the relevant language skills and experience of legal and commercial terminology. Provide context, definitions and sector-specific terms. If the recipient requires a sworn translator or a particular certification format, share those instructions before commissioning the work.

Which Contract Files Should I Provide?

Provide the latest complete agreement and identify any annexes or schedules that also need translation. Tell us whether existing translated wording has already been approved. This helps keep terms and references consistent across the document set.

Do I Need to Get a Contract Translated?

You may need a translation when another party, employee, adviser or authority needs to read the agreement in a different language. Confirm the required language and whether it is for information, negotiation or formal submission. Moving overseas does not by itself establish a certification requirement.

Can You Translate Contract Amendments?

Yes, amendments can be included in the project scope. Send the relevant contract version, the proposed changes and any previous translation. Specify whether you need only the amended clauses or an updated complete translation, and label files clearly to avoid version confusion.

How Do I Send the Documents for Translation?

Send a readable scan, PDF or editable file by email or through our contact form. Editable files can help preserve clause numbering and formatting. Include all pages, schedules and relevant instructions. Agree any special confidentiality or transfer requirements with us before sending sensitive material.

Can I Request a Bilingual Layout?

We can discuss a bilingual or side-by-side format for review. Tell us whether you need editable files, a PDF or both, and provide your layout requirements before we quote. Complex tables, handwritten changes and scanned pages can require additional formatting time.

Which Level of Certification Do I Need?

Ask the receiving organisation for its written instructions. A standard translation may be sufficient for internal review, while a formal submission may call for certified or sworn translation, notarisation or legalisation. We confirm the available service after reviewing those instructions.

How Long Does it Take to Translate a Contract?

Short documents typically take 1–2 working days and standard projects 2–3 working days. Length, language availability, specialist terminology and formatting affect the schedule. Longer agreements and additional certification require a tailored timeframe.

Same-day or next-day translation may be possible after review. Send the complete document and your deadline so we can confirm feasibility before you order.

Does My Contract Translation Need Certification?

Only request certification where the recipient needs it. Tell us the purpose and destination and share any required wording. An optional Statement of Truth is normally £25 extra if requested. Certification does not replace legal advice on the agreement itself.
