What is a certified German translation?
A certified German translation is a document translated from or into German with a formal declaration by the translator (or translation company) that it is a true and complete rendering of the original. The certificate must show the translator’s name, signature, date and contact details; in Germany it is typically issued by a court-sworn translator.
When do I need certified vs sworn (beglaubigt) translations?
-
UK use (Home Office/UKVI, Passport Office, courts, universities): a certified translation that includes a Statement of Accuracy, date, translator/company name & contact, and signature is required. We issue this on our letterhead with seal.
-
Germany use (registries, courts, authorities): usually a sworn/beglaubigte Übersetzung by a court-appointed (beeidigte/ermächtigte) translator is required for legal validity. We handle this via our partner network in Germany and deliver per local rules.
Tip: If an apostille/legalisation is required for your original, obtain it before the sworn translation (so the translator can include it in the bound set).

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a UK certified translation accepted in Germany?
Often no—German authorities typically require a sworn (beglaubigte) translation by a court-appointed translator. We arrange this when your destination is in Germany.
Do I need notarisation or an apostille?
Some processes do. If an apostille is required, it generally should be obtained before the sworn translation so the apostilled document can be bound and referenced.
Can I submit scans?
For UK certified translations, high-quality scans are usually fine. For German sworn translations, paper originals or bound sets may be required for final submission—your case manager will advise for your authority.
How fast can you deliver?
Civil documents (1–3 pages) are commonly turned around within 24–48 hours. Complex sets and sworn work vary by state/authority—we’ll confirm timelines in your quote.
Will you use a court-sworn translator for Germany?
Yes. We work with beeidigte/ermächtigte translators across Germany and will match by state/authority if needed.
