What is a sworn translation?
A sworn translation is a translation produced and sealed by a translator officially appointed by a court or designated authority in that country. These translators swear an oath and apply an official stamp or formula that gives the translation legal validity before public authorities. Examples include traductor jurado in Spain, beeidigter/ermächtigter Übersetzer in Germany, traducteur agréé/assermenté in France, and tłumacz przysięgły in Poland.
Important nuance for UK users: The UK typically uses certified translations (a translator’s signed statement of accuracy) rather than a formal “sworn” system. For many UK authorities (e.g., visa or passport applications), translations must include the translator’s confirmation of accuracy, date, name/signature and contact details. We provide this where a UK certified translation is sufficient and arrange sworn translations where a foreign authority explicitly requires them.
Do you need sworn, certified, notarised or apostilled?
-
Sworn translation — Required by specific countries/authorities (e.g., Spain, Germany, France, Poland). We deliver translations sealed by court-appointed translators in the relevant jurisdiction.
-
Certified translation (UK) — A signed statement of accuracy by a qualified translator or company. Widely used for UKVI/Home Office, HM Passport Office and universities.
-
Notarised translation — A notary public notarises the translator’s declaration (some authorities request this in addition to certification).
-
Apostille (legalisation) — Confirms the signature/seal on a public document for use abroad. Paper apostille and e-Apostille are available via the UK Legalisation Office (FCDO). We’ll advise if your translated document (or the notarial certificate) needs an apostille.
Unsure what you need? Share the destination country and authority—we’ll confirm the exact format.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between sworn and certified translation?
Sworn translations are produced and sealed by officially appointed translators in countries that use a sworn system (e.g., Spain, Germany, France, Poland). Certified translations (common in the UK) carry a translator/company statement of accuracy and the translator’s details.
Do UK authorities require sworn translations?
Usually no—they require certified translations with set details (confirmation of accuracy, date, translator’s name/signature and contact details). We provide this as standard.
When is an apostille needed?
If the destination country or authority asks to legalise the signature/seal on a public document (or notarial certificate), you’ll need an apostille issued by the UK Legalisation Office (FCDO). We can coordinate this for you.
Can you guarantee acceptance abroad?
We follow the destination authority’s rules (e.g., using translators from official lists) to ensure your translation is in the correct form; final acceptance rests with the authority.
How fast is the service?
Turnarounds vary by language and jurisdiction. Share your deadline—we’ll confirm feasibility and options (including expedited legalisation where available).
How long will it take you to translate my Ebook into the Italian language?
We offer seamless translations at the fastest possible turnaround time. The total time needed depends on the total word count of your project.
